Ranieri made the decision after defeat to Genoa.
“I am sad for Ranieri, because I know how it feels to be there right now and how much he is suffering,” said Mazzone.
“It’s a doomed year and so the Coach pays the price, as is always the case when a team loses.”
“I don’t think the players got rid of their Coach. It doesn’t happen for a player to go on the field and play to upset their tactician. Only those who don’t know football can think that.
“Today’s result was amazing, but that doesn’t mean they were playing to lose. Otherwise they wouldn’t have gone 3-0 up.
“The players who moaned and caused controversy with Ranieri didn’t just do it with him. They’ve got previous at this sort of thing.”
