Roma are keen to do business with Barcelona over winger Ludovic Giuly - independent of any deal for Cristian Chivu.

Barca sports chief Txiki Begiristain wants to use the Frenchman to bring down the cash component demanded by Roma for Chivu. But the Italians have already informed Begiristain they want to discuss a separate deal for Giuly.

Giuly has expressed plans to return to France, but Roma's interest is new and the prospect of playing in the Italian capital is attractive to the midfielder.
