Zibi Boniek says AS Roma had the chance to sign Borussia Dortmund star Robert Lewandowski.

Boniek says he recommended his fellow Pole to Roma management.

"When Lewandowski was at Lech Poznan, I called my friends at Roma," the former Juventus and Giallorosso forward said.

"I told them to catch the first plane to Poland, to sign Robert, who then would have sold for just €1.5m, no problem.

"They just ignored me.

"He has plenty of quality and character. Besides being able to score goals, he has the nose of a goalscorer, I assure you."
