Roma given all clear for new stadium development

AS Roma has secured approval from four local governing bodies to proceed with its long-running plans to build a new stadium in the country's capital, reports Sport Business.

Roma Capitale, the Metropolitan City, the Region of Lazio and the government all initially cleared the 55,000-seat Stadio della Roma project late last month. The club used a series of meetings concluding yesterday (Tuesday) to discuss the various regulations for the initiative and formalise this approval.

Roma began work on the Stadio della Roma project in February 2012 when it launched a search for a suitable site for its new home. In December of the same year, the club selected a location in the Tor di Valle area of Rome for the stadium.

"I'm delighted because I know what this decision could mean for Rome itself, for our club's future and for our fans - and we want to give them the home they deserve," Roma president Jim Pallotta said.

"The city and fans deserve this world-class stadium. We are confident the Stadio della Roma will be among the best in the world and a key driver for the club's continued success."

"For a stadium development to be truly successful today, it must become part of the everyday fabric of people's lives. This integrated project provides such an opportunity, creates thousands of jobs many new and sustainable business opportunities."
