New AS Roma coach Zdenek Zeman has refused to criticise the work of predecessor Luis Enrique.

Zeman has been called into the Stadio Olimpico after Luis Enrique's one season stint on the bench ended with the club failing to qualify for Europe.

"It is hard to talk about the problems of last season because I wasn't here," Zeman stated.

"Not being in the squad, it is difficult for me to make those evaluations. The problems could have been physical or mental.

"My objective? I want us to compete with the other sides - by that I mean with Inter, Milan and Juventus, but also Pescara.

"Everyone will start the season on a level playing field."
