Roma coach Luciano Spalletti has hit out at critics of Francesco Totti's decision to refuse to return to the Italy team.

"He made a choice," insisted Spalletti. "He chose Roma and I believe that the Nazionale should accept his decision.

"It is difficult for Totti to play so many games in one campaign with what happened to him last February.

"I do not know Francesco's innermost thoughts on this issue. He will talk it over with Roberto Donadoni."
