Roma coach Claudio Ranieri admits he's spoken to Francesco Totti after his dismissal in midweek.
Totti was sent off for lashing out at Inter Milan striker Mario Balotelli during their defeat in the Coppa Italia final.
Ranieri said: "It was a pity and other things should've been highlighted, but because Francesco was at the centre of it, this story became a huge media event. Some tried to call him evil.
"I spoke to him, Roman to Roman, and said what I thought. Totti knows he is only human. He lost his head. He remains our captain and we move forward.
"To be honest, I have always hoped he wouldn't go to the World Cup. He has had so many injuries and Roma need him."
