Roma coach Claudio Ranieri believes it is a lack of money that has hurt Italian clubs in Europe.

Former Chelsea and Valencia manager Ranieri was asked to comment on the collapse of the Italian sides in the Champions League with Milan and Fiorentina's exit.

He said: "We have less money than the other Leagues. In the long run, you pay for that. Having said that, Fiorentina gave a great account of Italian football and did not deserve to go out."
