AS Roma are closing on a deal for Newell's Old Boys striker Ezequiel Ponce.

Roma are competing with Tottenham for the young striker, with both clubs having submitted bids in recent weeks.

However, Roma are now taking control of the race and have entered negotiations over Ponce's registration.

The Giallorossi are close to striking terms for 60 per cent of Ponce's contract with Newell's for a price of €5 million.

Roma would also allow Ponce to remain with his Argentine club for 2015.
