AS Roma sports chief Walter Sabatini is surprised by the sacking of Walter Mazzarri at Inter Milan.
Sabatini was keen to bring Mazzarri to Roma before they moved for former Lille coach Rudi Garcia.
"He was one of the candidates, but I did not expect the return of (Roberto) Mancini (at Inter)," said Sabatini.
"I saw him staying abroad, but I welcome him back.
"Mazzarri is a great coach, if he stayed he would've put things right and sometimes decisions are made also to bring a bit of excitement to the stadium."
