Roma chief Monchi: I sold Salah. I had no choice

Roma chief Monchi admits he's responsible for selling Mohamed Salah to Liverpool.

Salah scored twice in last night's Champions League semifinal first-leg clash at Anfield, with Liverpool winning 5-2.

Monchi confessed: "I have sold Salah, I have to assume the reality, I sold him for a little more than 42 million.

"But it has an explanation, we had to sell him before June 30 and if we had not done so, we would not be in these semifinals, we had very demanding UEFA controllers and there was a need to sell, and when I arrived I had an offer of 30 million and we have almost reached 50 with bonuses, that's what I had to do.

"Obviously the market has gone crazy with Neymar, Coutinho and Dembélé and then the player has had a great season, so congratulations to Liverpool for having bought him, we did not have any other solution because he wanted to go and we had to do it before June 30.

"Unfortunately today we have suffered because we know of his quality, we have not discovered him today, I already suffered with Sevilla when he was playing for Fiorentina and he is a very strong player."
