Former Manchester United fullback Guillermo Varela is being linked with a quick return to Europe's big time.

Varela was only sold by United last summer to Uruguay's Penarol.

However, the defender is now on the wanted list of Roma ahead of the January market.

Roma chief Monchi is already in contact with Penarol about a price for Varela, having also considered him while in charge of Sevilla.

A deal in January is now being discussed.
