Roma captain Francesco Totti admits he hopes this season's successful Champions League run will make him a genuine contender for the Ballon d'Or.

After victory over Real Madrid, Totti said: "I know this is a very important tournament if you want to win the Ballon d'Or. I hope the last few years of my professional career help me, in this sense.

"It has been a great feat.

"We were conscious of being able to win against a great side like Real.

"The truth is, I am not fully fit," confessed Totti. "But in the last three weeks I have found my best form. I have trained everyday and this has helped my condition."
