Toni will leave Bayern next week on a free transfer and Roma have emerged as favourites to land the 32 year-old striker.
Totti said: "With the winter market approaching, I'm sure that the club will do us a nice favor during the January transfer window, so that we can be even more competitive in the league and in Europe.
"I've read in the papers about several possible reinforcements, and all the names mentioned are those of good players. Whoever joins us must be someone who makes us stronger, but I won't state my own preference as that's a task for the management and of course the coach.
"Certainly I think that Luca Toni is a solid and consistent striker, and he's a world champion. The others whose names keep cropping up are also great players and I'd be pleased to see them join us."
