Roma boss Ranieri denies Totti row claims

AS Roma coach Claudio Ranieri has dismissed claims of a row with skipper Francesco Totti.

Totti ignored Ranieri when substituted for their victory over Inter Milan on Saturday.

"It is not a problem, he is an intelligent person," assured Ranieri when asked about this latest substitution.

"Francesco played a great game, like a real captain. At that moment I had to gamble with everything I had.

"I needed someone quick because I saw that the Inter defence was tired. Someone like Mirko Vucinic can have that change of pace that really troubles opponents.

"Even if he might've been disappointed, Francesco will understand and be happy with the victory."

Roma director Gian Paolo Montali also tried to smooth over the reports of a bust-up.

"Clearly Francesco always wants to play, as he is a symbol. There is no friction with Ranieri. Jeremy Menez didn't shake his hand either when he came off the field, but they were all there celebrating in the locker room."
