Glenn Roeder is emerging as favourite for the football director's post at Crystal Palace.
The Daily Mail says Roeder has been out of the game officially since 2009, but remains an influential figure and he recently recommended Russell Slade to be the next Cardiff boss.
Palace currently sit one spot above the relegation zone in 17th after 11 games of the season.
Neil Warnock's side lost 1-0 to Manchester United at Old Trafford on Saturday thanks to a second half Juan Mata goal.
