Roeder assisting Aston Villa with scouting duties

Aston Villa No2 Gary McAllister has revealed Glenn Roeder has been assisting with scouting.

Chief scout Jeff Vetere left Villa to join Charlton as director of football in March and McAllister insists former West Ham United and Newcastle United manager Roeder's input has been invaluable while the club look to recruit a permanent replacement.

"Glenn has been with us a wee while now," McAllister told the Birmingham Mail.

"We have lost our chief scout and people might be putting two and two together, but nothing has been sorted there.

"He has been keeping Gerard informed with the reports and will continue to do those and keep us up to speed with the teams we have got to play.

"It is another big department that needs to be looked at as well including the scouting system.

"We need people out there with their ears on the ground looking for pick up that signing that might magic up that special player.

"Villa is a huge club and it is something we are very keen on getting right up there among the best scouting systems around."
