Rodgers urges Celtic to back up Man City display against Gladbach

Celtic boss Brendan Rodgers has urged his players to repeat their impressive recent performance against Manchester City against Bundesliga side Borussia Monchengladbach on Wednesday night.

The Hoops produced a spirited performance against City in their last Champions League group game and came out with a 3-3 draw.

In their next group game, the Bhoys will host an injury-depleted Monchengladbach side at Celtic Park and Rodgers is hoping for another positive display.

Rodgers said: "Gladbach have an outstanding young team. It's another tough game against another good side.

"People are talking about those missing through injury but it's an opportunity for others to step in. We have to be very aware of that.

"We always felt it would be fantastic if we could be in European football after Christmas.

"The players have made great strides in a very short time. In terms of their development, this competition was always going to help us, and against Man City the performance was of a very high level.

"We showed we can compete at this level – now we have to back that up.

"Today was probably the best training session we've had since I came here. The intensity and focus was first class.

"That's great news for me because it shows the players are enjoying their work."
