Rodgers refuses to discuss Liverpool transfer targets

Liverpool boss Brendan Rodgers is being coy over potential transfer targets, but has distanced the club from reports linking them with an approach for Schalke striker Klaas-Jan Huntelaar. He said: "There are a lot of people upstairs doing a lot of great work and are working very, very hard. Let's hope that by the time it shuts later on we have got some reinforcements."

Asked about Fulham and USA international Clint Dempsey, Rodgers said: "We have to wait and see. There is a number of players we are enquiring about."

As attention turned to Arsenal winger Theo Walcott, the Reds boss added with a smile: "He's an Arsenal player, a very good Arsenal player."

He was slightly more forthcoming when it came to speculation claiming Holland international Huntelaar could help to bolster Liverpool's striking options.

Rodgers said: "No. Definite no."

"At the moment there are a number of contacts that we are making and I don't want to, out of respect to the other clubs and the players, sit here and go through every single player that has been linked with Liverpool. Hopefully there will be one or two coming in.

"There have been lots of names thrown out there, but we are hopeful that by the end of the day we will have one or two in that can support the group."
