Brendan Rodgers is urging Liverpool's owners to scrap their transfer policy to sign Swansea City defender Ashley Williams.
Liverpool have identified Williams as one of their prime targets this summer and Rodgers would like to bring Swansea's captain in to replace the soon to be retired Jamie Carragher. Arsenal, who had a £9million bid rejected for Williams in January, are also firmly interested.
Williams, though, was a boyhood Liverpool fan and would favour a move to Merseyside but he is likely to cost in the region of £12million and Fenway Sports Group have implemented a strategy that means they do not sign players over the age of 23, says the Daily Mail.
Given that Williams is 28, Rodgers would have to persuade FSG to be flexible and that element means the transfer might become complex.
