Rodgers gets set for Real Madrid saying Liverpool 'can challenge any team'

Brendan Rodgers is of the belief that Liverpool's best form can match it with any team they come up against.

As the Reds prepare for Tuesday night's Champions League meeting with Real Madrid at the Santiago Bernabeu, Rodgers is looking for a vast improvement following a number of negative results in recent times.

Liverpool are yet to recapture their free-scoring form of last season but Rodgers has indicated that it could just be around the corner as they strive for a positive showing against the reigning European champions.

"Our focus coming into this game against a very good team is to put in a performance which can get us a result," he said.

"We look forward to these big games and see them as an opportunity, as opposed to any threat to what we are doing.

"We are still very much in the hunt to qualify from the group and we will go into the game tomorrow respecting the opponent, but knowing we have got some outstanding players.

"If we can find the intensity and speed we have shown over the last 18 months, we can challenge any team."
