Rodgers: England future found at Liverpool

Brendan Rodgers says Liverpool can be the foundation of England's future.

England coach Roy Hodgson's assistant Ray Lewington has been on numerous occasions to see their dramatic improvement over the season - including last weekend's 5-1 hammering of Arsenal.

Rodgers said: "I'm not sure if Roy is missing out by not coming to Anfield.

"Ray is obviously a trusted lieutenant for Roy and I am sure he will know the level these players are playing at.

"Look at young Jon Flanagan and the level he is playing at. The quality he is playing at, especially in big games.

"Steven Gerrard - everyone knows Steven's qualities but I think it would be good for Roy to see him in that central pivot that we play now.

"Jordan Henderson? Everyone has seen his progress; his maturity and his leadership qualities. He has been immense.

"Then Raheem Sterling; he's been absolutely outstanding. Incredible. For a kid of that age, to be playing at the level he is at.

"You look at Daniel Sturridge's transformation from being a Chelsea reserve player to being what I would consider the No 9 for England for the World Cup.

"I think it is a good signal and a good statement - especially for young British players - that if you come to Liverpool, you will get your opportunity if your focus is right."
