Liverpool boss Brendan Rodgers is excited about the quality in the existing squad.
Despite last season's woes, the new chief is certain the raw materials are in place to mount a serious assault on the top four.
He insisted: "For a start, there's a world-class goalkeeper in Pepe Reina.
"You've got Glen Johnson, who can be the world's best right-back. He can bomb, he can run, he can serve the ball and he's quick. Then you've got Jose Enrique, who will only get better.
"You've got your centre-halves, Martin Skrtel and Daniel Agger, who've done well, and a legend in Jamie Carragher who will always provide great motivation for the group. What a phenomenal player he's been here.
"Then there are players like Luis Suarez, who is a talent and scores great goals, and Steven Gerrard who - when fit - is the ultimate.
"I am excited about everything. It's a city of folklore and football and I am proud to be a part of it."
