Liverpool manager Brendan Rodgers is supremely confident that Steven Gerrard will sign a new contract with the club.
The current deal of the 34-year old midfielder expires at the end of the season but Rodgers feels he will soon commit to the Anfield cause despite recent murmurings of a potential exit.
"It's quite straightforward," said Rodgers of the skipper after his Reds were beaten 1-0 by Newcastle United on Saturday.
"I had a meeting with Steven's representative explaining the situation. I very much want him to be a part of what we are doing here.
"He's been a brilliant captain for me. I relayed that to the ownership.
"I'm sure he will go away with that and hopefully his representative will organise a deal. Steven is very much part of what I'm doing here. He's a unique player, a unique talent."
Former England captain Gerrard joined Liverpool's senior side in 1998 and has since made over 650 appearances for the Merseyside outfit.
