Rodgers attempting to renew US visa for NYRB return

Luke Rodgers is determined to obtain another US visa so he can again play for New York Red Bull.

The English striker was denied a second working permit prior to the 2012 MLS season forcing the Red Bulls to send him to Norwegian club Lillestrom on loan but head coach Hans Backe suggests he could be back next term.

"He phoned me a couple of days ago," Backe told the NY Post. "He will probably try himself to get a visa, November, December."

Following his spell with Lillestrom, Rodgers joined English League One club Portsmouth on a one-month contract suggesting to Backe that he will have to do some work before the Red Bulls ponder a new deal for him.

"I like Luke; but I don't know how many games (he's played) with Portsmouth. He signed for only one month because they go into administration. I haven't seen any games from him so far," added Backe who is unsure how long he will wait this year to see if the 30-year old obtains the appropriate paperwork.

"Not that much time, but if you go into the break and he will try to go get his visa in November then you'll have some time."
