Rodgers admits Swansea "stunned" by Newcastle defeat

Swansea City boss Brendan Rodgers admits they were shocked by their defeat to Newcastle United.

Swansea enjoyed almost a 70% share of the ball, but they could not take the chances that fell their way, despite the best efforts of Premier League player of the month Gylfi Sigurdsson, and were punished as they fell to a third-straight league defeat for the first time since 2004.

Rodgers said: "I'm a bit stunned to be honest. We made a good start with the ball and then it's a perfect start for them to get a goal so early.

"We were beaten by quality today in Cisse, and we can't be too disappointed because we were playing a team challenging for a Champions League place.

"To dominate the ball in a game like that means I am proud of the players.

"We had opportunities but we needed a bit of luck, we had over 20 efforts at goal, 13 on target.

"But we were undone early on and the second goal was likewise, we conceded possession on halfway and Cabaye has made two perfect dead-weight passes and Cisse produced two terrific finishes, in particular the second one."
