Liverpool boss Brendan Rodgers admits rotating Steven Gerrard out of the line-up for victory over Stoke City.
The Reds boss dropped his captain after going five games without a win.
When asked why Gerrard didn't start, Rodgers said: "We have lots of games in a short period of days so we've just made a few changes to freshen up the team.
"Steven Gerrard has been a fantastic player and still is but at this stage of his career he can't play every game."
