Rodgers admits Downing, Enrique playing for their Liverpool futures

Stewart Downing and Jose Enrique could be sold by Liverpool in January. The Sun says both Liverpool stars have slipped from being first-team regulars to midweek men, while youngsters 17-year-old Raheem Sterling, Martin Kelly, 22, and Jonjo Shelvey, 20, leapfrogged them.

Now Rodgers has spelled it out in no uncertain terms - show the tenacity to go with your talent or start packing your bags.

The Reds boss warned: "I'll keep the communication private between Stewart and I, but he is under no illusions that he has to fight. The same goes for Enrique, for sure.

"If you are prepared to work hard that gives you confidence, which will lead to success.

"But if you come in looking in for an easy life, pick up your money, it won't be here.

"For me status does not matter. It doesn't matter how much money you have come for. I will play a 17-year-old if he fights and he has quality. It is quite easy."
