Rodgers adamant Liverpool will challenge for top four this term

Liverpool boss Brendan Rodgers is adamant they can compete for a top four finish.

Rodgers is convinced the Reds can peg back the 10-point gap to West Brom, who are currently fourth in that last Champions League place.

Rodgers insisted: "I've always been very optimistic in my life. I grew as a coach by thinking positively. Let's be honest, it is a massive ask but that has to be our target.

"I have got a vision of where I want us to go and I believe we are on track.

"I see a group that is motivated and very committed to the cause, working very hard to get those results. If you have that as your core, then you've got a chance. Then it comes down to quality and if you look at the players they're giving everything.

"My job is to keep that belief and confidence in the group, because eventually it will change, whether through one or two additions or whether we find some goals.

"These early stages have shown me a performance level I can only draw comfort from, because it will lead us to a good place later on. I am only looking upwards."
