Rodallega would be a massive coup for Celtic - Wigan's McArthur

Wigan Athletic midfielder James McArthur believes Celtic would be doing very well if they were to acquire the services of Hugo Rodallega.

The Colombian striker is a free agent after his contract at the DW Stadium expired at the end of last season and is being linked with a number of clubs including Tottenham and the Hoops.

McArthur said that Rodallega, a fan favourite with the Latics, would be a hit at Parkhead but only if Neil Lennon was able to pry him away from bigger clubs in England.

"He's the club's all-time leading scorer in the Premiership so the fans love him here and will be sorry to see him go," McArthur said.

"If he goes to Celtic I'm sure the supporters there would take to him too. Even when he was a sub last season, when he warmed up the fans would chant 'Hugo, Hugo'. He'll always be remembered for his contribution here.

"It's no surprise he's been linked with a lot of big clubs. Spurs have also been mentioned so it would be a real coup if Neil could tempt him to Celtic.

"He's scored goals in the Premiership so there's no doubt he would do the same in the SPL. No disrespect but the standard of defenders he'd be up against won't be as good as down in England so he'd score a lot of goals in Scotland.

"Having played with him for two years, I know Hugo is capable of playing for one of the top clubs in England and I'd be surprised if they aren't in for him this summer.

"He's good enough to play for one of the top six in the Premiership so that's what Celtic might be up against."
