Barnsley have confirmed talks are continuing with Rochdale boss Keith Hill but that there are still other candidates in the frame.
The Oakwell outfit are looking to bring in a new face at the helm following the departure of Mark Robins.
Other names reported to be on the shortlist are former Sheffield Wednesday duo Alan Irvine and Brian Laws, along with ex-Blades boss Kevin Blackwell.
"Our search for a new manager is ongoing," club director Don Rowing told local newspaper The Star.
"We're speaking with Keith at the moment, but there is more than one candidate for the position."
