Robson slams MLS: Beckham should leave

Ex-England manager Sir Bobby Robson says MLS is second rate and if David Beckham wants to play for England he should buy out of his contract. Speaking in his Mail on Sunday column, Robson says: "I know David extremely well. Behind the pretty face is a very tenacious and competitive sportsman. I said when he was first dropped by Steve McClaren, you should never write him off. And I also warned that playing in a second-rate league in America was no way to prepare for going to the World Cup with England."

Robson continues: "With Beckham having taken a lucrative contract in America and widely quoted as saying he wanted to help promote the sport in the USA, Robson believe he should bail If it means money coming out of his own pocket to facilitate the move to Milan, then so be it…. But the one unfulfilled ambition is winning something with England. His three World Cups so far have been hugely disappointing - sent off in the first, unfit in the second and substituted in tears at the third."

LA Galaxy fans are used to disappointment since David Beckham joined the successful franchise. Beckham was injured for the majority of his first season, three managers in charge and LA Galaxy have failed to qualify for the play-offs. Should David Beckham bail would that then be a second rate disappointment?

May the circus continue …
