Sir Bobby Robson has hailed Steve McClaren's decision to take the FC Twente job.
"It's a chance for Steve to rebuild his career away from the spotlight. I think it'll be good for him. I'm delighted he's had the courage to do it and not be afraid of it. That says something about him and his character. It's brave, but abroad you have more time for yourself. You just work with the first team. His life will be about coaching and preparing the team. He will love that."
Unlike most English managers, McClaren will take part in the group stage of the Champions League, if Twente progress beyond the qualifying stage.
"That happens once in a blue moon at Premier League clubs nowadays," Robson said. "I think more English managers should go abroad. As a country we import a lot of foreign players and managers, but we don't export many of either. It's something I would thoroughly recommend. Getting that world view is a healthy thing. It opens doors."
