Robinson delighted after first Blackburn training session

New Blackburn Rovers goalkeeper Paul Robinson was delighted to experience his first training session with his teammates today.

"I'm delighted to be here, to be part of such an established Premier League football team," the Rovers' new No1 told the club's website.

"There had been a lot of media speculation and a lot of hype, I think I'd been linked to between six and ten clubs this summer but once Blackburn's interested was confirmed there was only place I was ever going to come.

"Everyone that I spoke to told me what a great football club this is, people say it is a real football club, they look after you, they look after the players and it is just a great club for me to be at.

"I've had my first day of training today and it has been brilliant, I just can't wait to get started."

One of the players that the 'keeper had spoken to about the move was striker Jason Roberts, who Robinson calls a friend despite their irregular contact.

"Funnily enough I met Jason Roberts on holiday about ten years ago, and we've kept in touch ever since in a strange bloke kind of way," revealed Robinson. "We've exchanged a text every six months.

"It will be good to see him again, I'm just looking forward to working with all the lads.

"It is great to be wanted again, and that is a big part of your confidence for a goalkeeper, if things aren't going right for you and times are bad then you need people around you that believe in you and want you, which is what I'm going to get here."

Robinson may wear the number one jersey like his predecessor Brad Friedel, but he insists that he is his own man and not Friedel's replacement.

"Brad was an excellent goalkeeper and he did an excellent job for this club and I'm sure he is well respected here, but I'm not coming here as Brad Friedel's replacement, I'm coming here as Paul Robinson.

"I'm coming here to show the Blackburn fans, the Blackburn people what I can do."
