New York Red Bulls midfielder Carl Robinson is back in training and expected to return to MLS action this weekend.

The 33-year old former Wales international hurt his knee in a pre-season friendly against Brazilian club Santos and has not played since but Red Bulls coach Hans Backe expects him to play some game time against FC Dallas at home this weekend.

“He trained first time yesterday with the ball and almost full session today,” Backe said. “He will be available, but he’s been away for three weeks after the Santos game so probably not fit enough, but available.”

Robinson said he felt good but admitted he would need to wait and see how he pulled up before committing to the Dallas clash.

“I trained the last two days and today was the first day fully,” Robinson said. “I’m fine. We’ll wait and see how it reacts tomorrow with the intention of joining [the first team] on Thursday.”
