Robinho to tell Man City he wants Santos stay

Manchester City winger Robinho wants a new deal with Santos.

Roberto Mancini says he will welcome the £32.5million record signing back to the club when the loan deal at Santos ends in August, but the player is hoping to prolong his stay in Brazil for another year.

In talks today, Robinho's father will spell out the intention to strike a new deal with Santos, but it is unclear whether the Brazilians have the finances in place to formally make a new offer. Sponsors were needed to cover the initial six-month loan.

And Santos director of football Paulo Jamelli fears that an impressive performance at the World Cup could attract competitive interest from European clubs.

"The future of Robinho is very dependent on the World Cup," said Jamelli. "It's clear now that he wants to stay and we want him to. But it is a decision that involves Manchester City, his performance in the World Cup, and he will carry more value if Brazil become world champions."
