Arsenal legend Thierry Henry is the shock favourite for the Wales job.
Chris Coleman has decided to leave the post to accept the manager's job at Sunderland.
The Mirror says Henry will be under consderation by the Football Association of Wales. The Frenchman is currently working as No2 to Belgium coach Roberto Martinez.
Henry's name will be the surprise choice by the suits in Cardiff who have a number of set criteria that must be met.
They are adamant Osian Roberts will stay in his post and that any new man must work with the highly-regarded coach, credited with playing an decisive part in Wales's success under Coleman.
Interestingly, Henry formed a close relationship with Roberts when he undertook his coaching badges last year. The pair have remained in touch.
