Jason Roberts admits there was great determination at Blackburn Rovers to beat Wolves after their thrashing by Manchester United the previous week.
The striker admits they "threw in the towel" at United.
Roberts said: "What happened at Old Trafford hurt us. The manner in which we lost was really disappointing.
"We shouldn't have been throwing the towel in like that.
"We sensed going into the Wolves game that it was a huge match for us. The feeling within the squad was we had to win this one."
It is easy to forget Big Sam's men have won four of their last six matches to move up to eighth.
Roberts added: "We're on a great run and I don't think our character has ever been in doubt.
"We have weaknesses but our character isn't one of them. This week we've shown what we're about."
