Roberto Carlos backs Real Madrid pursuit of Fiorentina fullback Vargas

Roberto Carlos has backed Real Madrid's pursuit of Fiorentina left-back Juan Manuel Vargas.

Fenerbahce star Roberto Carlos would welcome the prospect of Peru international Vargas making the move to Real.

The Madrid legend said: "Vargas is a player of great quality, with considerable physical strength, he can play for Real Madrid.

"He might well be my successor, in Florence he is doing very well and I'm sure that he would be even better in Madrid. Vargas is an interesting player, if a club like Real follows you it really means something."
