River Plate captain Leo Ponzio says the players would welcome the arrival of Javier Mascherano.

The Barcelona veteran has declared this will be his last season at the Nou Camp as his contract winds down.

Mascherano wants regular football in the final years of his career and a return to River Plate has been mentioned as an option.

Ponzio told Ole: "I know little about Javier, but I know what kind of person he is.

"The club's doors are always open for this kind of high class player, especially for someone who has played here before. It's not for me to say when he has to come back, but the doors are open for him."
