Rioch says Coyle chose right taking Bolton job

Bruce Rioch says Owen Coyle has made the right decision to move to Bolton Wanderers.

Coyle's departure from Burnley was confirmed yesterday afternoon.

And Rioch told the Daily Record: "I loved my three years at Bolton. There are good people at the club and the Lancastrians love their football.

"But Bolton are not as big as Celtic. You could never say that. They are certainly not as big as the top Premiership sides.

"When Celtic came in for Owen he probably thought the timing was wrong. He wanted a crack at the Premiership and you have to respect that. There is a lot of pressure at Celtic, it's a huge job.

"You need to win all the time and be a success in the Champions League. It's a lot for a young manager to take on.

"There is a different kind of pressure at Bolton. He has to keep them in the Premiership and the difference between that league and the Championship is huge in terms of finance. Owen was in with the bricks at Burnley so there will be folk wondering, perhaps many Celtic fans, why he has left them for Bolton when he knocked back the offer from Parkhead last summer.

"I'm just guessing here but I'm sure finance played a part. Let's say he was on £500,000 at Burnley and Bolton offered £1.5million a year. If all of us are honest that would be difficult to turn down.

"That's the power of the Premiership. Even Bolton, a club who have just stayed in the league for a few seasons now, can pay big money if they want a certain manager."
