Karl-Heinz Riedle believes Brendan Rodgers can pull off a 'Juergen Klopp' if Liverpool win this season's Premier League title.
The Reds are strongly placed to break a 24-year premiership drought after beating Manchester City 3-2 on Sunday which has them sitting clear of both Chelsea and City on England's top flight table with just four fixtures remaining (six for City).
Rodgers stepped into the Anfield role under no pressure in June 2012 after leaving Swansea City but has made an immediate impact on Merseyside, guiding the famous club to be within striking distance of a first league title since 1990.
In comparison, Klopp arrived at the Westfalenstadion from FSV Mainz in the summer of 2008 and just a few seasons later guided BVB to their seventh German Bundesliga title.
Dortmund won the 2010/11 and 2011/12 domestic German titles before finishing second to runaway victors Bayern Munich last season - the same campaign where they were edged out by the Bavarians in the Champions League final.
Prior to that, they took out the domestic title in 2001/02 which came 16 years after their previous back-to-back successes in 1994/95 and1995/96.
That suggests to ex-striker Riedle, who played for Liverpool between 1997 and 1999 after crossing from Dortmund, that Rodgers has done exceptionally well to turn things around at his respective club - just as Klopp did three seasons ago.
"The situation is similar at Liverpool actually has taken over Borussia Dortmund as Jurgen Klopp," the 1990 World Cup-winning former Germany international told sport1.de.
"With Brendan RodgersLiverpool did the same . You have a young coach with vision, a good, young players studded team."
48-year old Riedle appeared 67 times for Liverpool during his time at Anfield, scoring 13 goals, before joining Fulham as a 34-year old in September 1999.
Earlier in his career, he enjoyed success at Werder Bremen when winning the 1987/88 Bundesliga title which preceded his fruitful stint with Dortmund where he helped die Schwarzgelben take out the 1996/97 Champions League and two Bundesliga trophies ('95 and '96).
