Birmingham City defender Liam Ridgewell insists there were never any doubts over signing a new contract.
Ridgewell had been linked with a move to West Ham United as his deal came to an end last season.
"For myself it wasn't really a problem,'' he told the Birmingham Mail.
''Obviously it does go through your mind once the season has finished and you wonder what's happening, what you're going to do.
"But I'm delighted it was resolved and was able to sign on the dotted line.
"Maybe the owners were trying to get used to negotiations and all kind of stuff, they came in new to it. I didn't get involved, I just wanted it done basically and concentrated on my football.
"On their part, it may have been that and they had to look into certain things. Hopefully the way I played this season also helped them make their mind up so we could get it done."
