Richarlison debuts as Everton disappoint in friendly defeat at Blackburn

Everton's disappointing pre-season continued with a 3-0 defeat to ChampionshipBlackburn Rovers at Ewood Park.

Goals from Darragh Lenihan, Dominic Samuel and Bradley Dack gave Rovers a deserved win and a boost just nine days before the season begins with a trip to Ipswich.

For the Toffees there was a first appearance of Watford's Brazilian forward Richarlison signed recently in a deal potentially worth £50m who played the second 45 minutes.

The signing is seen as something of a gamble with the 21-year-old scoring five goals in his first 12 Premier League games for the Hornet's last season before his form faded dramatically.

In truth this was an anonymous debut from the new boy but in fairness the Brazilian was no more culpable than the rest of his team mates for this disappointing performance with a third consecutive pre-season game without scoring.

Boss Marco Silva was honest about his teams shortcomings: "We didn't perform well in the first half; it was different in the second half but we made some mistakes which allowed them to score but we also had four chances in the second half but failed to take them, but that is something we are working on to improve.

As to the debut of Richarlison: "He's only been with us a couple of days now but I know him well and he is one more player to improve our squad. He is a different winger to what we have and he give us something different and I'm sure with our support he will have a good impact on our squad."
