Richardson pleased with new Sunderland deal: I will play left-back

Kieran Richardson is delighted to have signed his new Sunderland contract.

Manager Steve Bruce has long said left back is Richardson's best position and the former Manchester United man is ready to take over defensive duties full time.

"I'll be playing at left back this season and I'm up for the challenge. Hopefully I can do well for the club while playing there.

"Every time I play there I'm feeling more comfortable and I'm training at left back now, so I'm sure it will be fine."

Meanwhile Richardson is delighted to have committed his future to Sunderland for the next three seasons.

And as far as he's concerned the decision to sign again was a no-brainer.

"The new deal is done and I was always going to sign up with Sunderland again," Richardson told safc.com.

"I'm just happy to have everything done and out of the way.

"Sunderland are a massive club and I want to be a part of that going forward.

"We have a great manager, a great chairman and great fans - why wouldn't I sign again?"
