Micah Richards wants to be told he will receive regular game time before signing a new contract with Manchester City.
The 25-year old defender still has two years to run on his current deal but the club want him to commit for the long-term, however, he just wants to simply be told he will share the right-back duties with Pablo Zabaleta under new boss Manuel Pellegrini.
"The manager has come in and I want to see his ideas and what he can do," said Richards who missed most of last season with ankle and knee injuries.
"I want to be here and I don't know why any player would want to leave but every player wants to play football. If I can do that here, it's perfect.
"I don't expect to play every game but the season we won the league me and Zaba rotated well. If we can do that this season, I'll be happy.
"The speculation has come because of the World Cup as well. People automatically think Zabaleta's going to be first choice, and if I'm not playing for my club it's impossible for me to go to the World Cup, so that's always going to be a factor."
