Micah Richards has blamed Manchester City's inconsistency on manager Manuel Pellegrini's new training methods.

City defender Richards admits the players have not been cut any slack on the training ground by the Chilean, who is working them harder than Mancini did.

"Under Roberto the intensity in training was a little bit lower," said Richards.

"That's not a criticism of Manuel Pellegrini's methods, it's just that the workload has increased and it's going to take the players time to get used to it.

"We will get used to it and ultimately it's to our benefit, because we'll get fitter and stronger."
