Richard Keys: Ex-Liverpool midfielder Redknapp 'lost the plot' in 2008 North London derby

Former Sky Sports pundit Richard Keys has revealed that old colleague Jamie Redknapp came close to blows with an Arsenal member of staff about seven years ago.

Keys was working alongside former Liverpool midfielder Redknapp when calling the North London derby between the Gunners and Tottenham at the Emirates Stadium back in 2008 which ended 4-4 after a dramatic finish.

Redknapp's father Harry was manager of Spurs at the time and his family allegiance led to the commentator 'losing the plot' after the final whistle and almost becoming physical with Arsenal staff.

Keys wrote in his 'Your Key to Sport' blog on Monday: "I lost count of the times I had to calm him during the many occasions I worked with him.

"There's a guy at Arsenal can thank his lucky stars there was glass between him and Redknapp the night of the 4-4 v Spurs at the Emirates.

"Jamie lost the plot completely. He wanted to fight him. It was the last time we let him work on a game that one of his Dad's teams was playing in.

"He would often get too close to individuals he liked, or not, and couldn't offer objective opinions."
