The younger brother of Ryan Giggs insists he had the ability to make it at Manchester United.
Rhodri Giggs is now player-manager of semi-pro Salford City.
"I want to take Salford as high as I can," he told the Daily Mail. "Salford's a big city; it's the biggest city not to have a team in the Football League. It's got a lot of potential. But something's burning away in me, that I ruined my playing career.
"I lacked confidence, I had the skills as a player but not the head. I've got that now. That nags, not every day, but there's enough of it to act as an incentive. I've got to work hard and believe in myself. I wish I had before.
"I could have played for United - Ryan would sometimes say to people that I was better than him when I was younger. I don't believe that, but I had skill. I just wasn't mature enough.
When Rhodri did join United it was the FC United of Manchester. 'Special' was his description of the anti-Glazer club.
"I respect them. It's a big commitment to do what they've done."
