REVEALED: The staggering savings Man Utd made offloading Rooney to Everton

Manchester United have saved a staggering amount of money by releasing Wayne Rooney to Everton.

The Mirror says Rooney left the club to rejoin Everton this summer after a 13-year stint which saw him become the club's record goalscorer when he passed Sir Bobby Charlton's mark of 249 goals in January.

But despite this payout, the club have saved £31 million in seeing the former England skipper depart with two years left on his deal, according to the report from Collins Sarri Statham. This despite handing him a £10 million 'golden handshake'.

Everton have struggled to live up to pre-season expectations, winning only twice in the Premier League this season to see them sit in 16th place.
